El derecho ante democracias desafiadas

The volume "América Central: El derecho ante democracias desafiadas" - Central America: Law in Democracies under Attack - was coordinated by Armin von Bogdandy, Mariela Morales Antoniazzi and Alina Maria Ripplinger. It offers legal-political analyses of democratic institutions and mechanisms of autocratization, actors and strategies of resistance to such autocratization, and the role of law at this intersection, from the domestic to the international. The first part discusses the patterns of presidential reelection, authoritarian survival, lawfare, and militarism, leading to challenges of democratic transformations and a more equal distribution of power and wealth. The second part reflects on scenarios of justice that respond to impunity, with a specific focus on the investigation and prosecution of human rights violations and crimes against humanity, and the relevance of the Inter-American Human Rights System and international criminal law. The chapters comprise El Salvador, Honduras, Guatemala and Nicaragua.
