{"id":2769,"date":"2022-09-29T15:28:00","date_gmt":"2022-09-29T13:28:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/iccal.lat\/?p=2769"},"modified":"2025-10-10T09:14:14","modified_gmt":"2025-10-10T07:14:14","slug":"a-historic-visit-of-indigenous-peoples-wampis-and-achuar-to-the-mpil","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/iccal.lat\/en\/a-historic-visit-of-indigenous-peoples-wampis-and-achuar-to-the-mpil\/","title":{"rendered":"A historic visit of indigenous peoples Wamp\u00eds and Achuar to the MPIL"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The long and constant resistance of the Wamp\u00eds Nation and the Achuar Peoples to extractive activities in their territories.&nbsp; A historic visit of indigenous peoples to the MPIL<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>On June 29, 2023, the 268th Ibero-American Colloquium took place under the theme &#8220;The long and relentless resistance of the Wamp\u00eds nation and the Achuar people to extractive activities in their territories&#8221;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With the historic visit of Shapiom Noningo Sesen (Wamp\u00eds Nation) and Ankuash Mitiap Kapuchak (Achuar People), the Institute had the honor of receiving representatives of two indigenous peoples for the first time. Since the creation of &#8220;Block 64&#8221; in the Peruvian Amazon in 1995, overlapping the territories of the Wamp\u00eds and the Achuar of Pastaza, several oil companies have attempted to operate in this area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As part of their resistance to oil exploration and the defense of the recognition of their rights, the Wamp\u00eds have declared themselves autonomous nations under the principle of self-determination of peoples. The Achuar, for their part, have sought constitutional recognition of their integral territory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Representatives of both communities presented the multiple challenges in their struggle for their rights and the protection of the Amazon against the Peruvian State and the exploitation of the natural resources of their territory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Speakers: Mariela Morales Antoniazzi,
